Counselling Theory Most of us will find ourself counselling someone at some time in our life will be part of a family and become involved in family counseling [whether we want to or not].
Counseling others can involve many situations. We can take up a career [full-time or part-time] as a professional counselor, or we can become involved in counseling as part of our pastoral duty of care to those in our charge. Examples of this latter case include doctors, nurses, school teachers, church officers, company bosses and many others.
Professional counseling is carried out by self-employed individuals with their own practice, and others employed by organizations to offer counseling such as career counseling, debt counseling, credit counseling and marriage counseling.
Marriage counseling [or marital counseling] is carried out by diferent groups. Charities have been set up exclusively to offer this help. Private professionals also become involved in marriage counseling [marital counseling].
The college's counseling course, offered by its school of counseling, takes students through the theory of counseling from beginner stage through to advanced level, all in one counseling course.
Often people may think to themself, " ...well why do I have to bother to learn counseling? I've been counseling for years and what I don't know doesn't exist!" We may have met one of these people. Their life has been taken over by helping others. They suffer from stress, due to their workload [they never turn away a deserving case]. In fact most of these lovely people really need a therapist of their own!
It need not be like that. Being a professional counselor means that we must be in control of ourself and so be able to efficiently and tactfully help others. Yes, often it is simply about listening to someone ... but often there is more.
The most important part of the school's counseling course is learning to cope with the forces which otherwise can lead to unhealthy stress ... or simply having our life taken over by our very natural desire to help those around us. A single course in Counselling is only £120 [about $235][or the equivalent in your own currency]. You can enrol in any three courses and pay only for two.
The College offers a great value programme in Psychotherapy. This comprises three courses: Hypnotherapy, Counselling and Psychology [or Applied Psychology]. You pay only two course fees and receive a diploma in each subject together with a fourth diploma in Psychotherapy
